Spain Tuesday Food

Please let me know if you are getting tired of the meal information.  But, it has been asked for.  We had lunch in Ronda.  Two had
Spanish Omelets.  These are eggs with potatoes inside.  No onions.  No peppers.  No cheese.  But very filling.  I had meatball soup.  Nice flavor, great meatballs.  The added French fries to the soup.  It actually tasted pretty good.  The fourth meal was a Ratatouille.  I was surprised to see a layer of hard boiled eggs  under the pile of ratatouille.  Everyone was happy.

 

Tonight we had tapas.  There were six tapas.  Paella, Chicken with Curry, Mushrooms, Calamari, Meat Balls with French Fries and Pork Cheeks.  All of them were great.  You get a little bit to share with everyone.  Since we had no idea what to order,  we asked our waiter to pick out some stuff.  He did a great job.  Also each delivery was a surprise to us.  Sorry the picture looks so bad, but we were hungry.

Ronda Church

There are many lovely churches in Europe.  What makes this one special is that it is a modified Mosque.  You can still see a small amount of the original Mosque tiles and wood work.

 

Ronda Bull Fights

We do not condone bull fights.  They seem very cruel.  We did not see a bull fight.  However, the arena at Ronda is the oldest and largest.  This part of Spain is where bull fighting began.

Ronda

Ronda is a relatively large town in the mountains.  We had a wonderful drive through the mountains – about an hour and one half each way.  It rained and drizzled all day long.  It is late at night as I write this, and it is pouring.  It seems to do a lot of the raining at night.  Since Ronda is about 3,000 feet above sea level, it was also colder.  Not a great combination cold and wet, but we persevered.

Gibralter Close to Africa

Ok,  I need to concentrate better.  I sent the wrong pictures with the last blog.  So, this time, I am describing the previous pictures and sending the pictures for the previous explanation.  Gibraltar is close to Africa.  It is about 12KM from Morocco.  The picture isn’t great, but if you look at the horizon, just above the Sea, you can see Morocco.  The sign shows that Linda and I are actually here.  The purpose of the statue is document that in Greek Mythology, Gibraltar is one of the four pillars of Hercules.  Columbus ruined that when he found America.

 

Gibralter Fortress

We all know that Gibraltar’s primary value is as a fortress.  One of the pictures shows the man made caves that go all through the rock.  The second picture shows the gun positions on the outside of the rock.  There were guns from the 1800 to WWII.  The city has a huge wall surrounding the city.  It was essentially a castle.  At one point they put in a second wall so they could lose half the city – worse case scenario.  I snuck a piece of the rock into my pocket.  I will bring it to the office when I get back.
