Turkey - Ephesus

It is like you are strolling through the town 2,400 years ago.  As we were walking our guide stopped us and picked up a couple of cubes of marble.  They were parts of a 2000 year old mosaic that will never be restored.  One cube was a little larger than a ½ inch.  The other was closer to ¼ inch.  The guide explained that the smaller mosaic would have been from a later mosaic. People had more time as the city aged and they could spend more time – smaller pieces.

The same is true of the structure of the buildings.  When you see a foundation made of large stone blocks, that foundation would be Greek.  The brick, and smaller marble pieces indicate Roman additions.
