Before I tell you about food, let me confess that I had a preconceived notion of what constituted Spanish food. I thought there would be tamales, tacos and enchiladas. Wrong! They have food much like our food. They just do it a little differently. I thought we would be seeing lots of rice. No, the common starch is potatoes. As I have toured, I did not see any place to plant rice, but there were areas for potatoes. Linda reminded me that the Indians grew cord. That is where our Mexican food gets the tortillas, tamales, etc.
One meal I had grilled shrimp. The spices and herbs were different. But a shrimp is a shrimp. We did have a couple of Buritos at one meal.
At lunch today, the big meal, we had grilled chicken, lamb and sole. It was all good, but you wouldn’t taste the lamb and say, this is Spanish.
Another mistake on my part was to think every restaurant would be Spanish food. They have Chinese, Japanese, Mexican, Indian, etc. Of course, they enjoy a variety of cuisines just like we do.
I did include a picture of a sign for Paella. I did not realize that there were many different kinds of Paella. I don’t know if you will be able to read the sign, but it shows 6 different kinds of Paella. That’s Spanish food.
